Licensure : Hands-on Endodontics : Information Hands-on Endodontics Courses At DSI We have two Post Licensure courses at DSI. It is a happy reunion when old Part III and IV students return from the wars victorious! What better reason to come visit than for a course which will have such a great impact on your work. Many students have expressed interest in training specifically for endodontics, in that this is an area where many are not comfortable and where the margin of profit in an office setting can he high. Also, one doesn't want to refer out a patient if it can be avoided. Evaluating the need and expected complexity of endo treatment and doing the bulk of the cases in your office is a real benefit. Any prospective employer will appreciate your training as well. The endo courses are designed first to establish firmly in your mind the principles and practice of diagnosis, cleaning and shaping, and Obturation using conventional methods. There are video tapes to be studied prior to the course - most of the course is hands-on, as usual here at DSI. Dr. Donald Peters, formerly endodontics professor at Loma Linda for many years,. takes each student through series of exercises, starting with hand-held teeth, then teeth in blocks, then anterior teeth in a main kin and finally molars in a mannequin. We have the only course where the use of a manikin gives the realism 6f file length selection, which can be a big problem with patients. We even radiograph the mannequin to evaluate progress. Sometimes a major determination of success is. the ability to correctly angle the X-ray beam We have designed the course to simulate patient treatment as much as possible and previous students have been uniformly enthusiastic. We limit the size of this course to 10 students so that Dr. Peters can work closely with each person The course starts on a Sunday and continues through Thursday - five full days of endodontics. Again, this course emphasizes the end result of. good technique and sound endodontics principles. Standard method are used which can be done quickly and efficiently with experience. All files points, instrument sets, etc. are available here at DSI. The second course is designed to teach two newer techniques which can make endodontics therapy faster and more efficient and yet equally effective when done well. Engine -driven files are used which will allow rapid cleaning and shaping -but you must first have a clear understanding of the desired goal from the basic course. Also, we will obdurate in the second course with a hot gutta percha method using a carrier. Both of these techniques can be very effective and are used in many practices. The New Technique Endodontics course will show you in a one day, mostly hands-on course, how to use these methods responsibly. The course is taught by Dr. Joseph Dovgan who has agreed to modify his normal course to include treatment of molars in a manikin. Again, at DSI we take every possible measure to simulate the patient treatment of you. |
