Part I: National Board Dental Exams
Part I is usually taken after two years of dental school. It consists of four examinations on the basic biomedical sciences titled:

• Anatomic Sciences
• Biochemistry Physiology
• Microbiology Pathology
• Dental Anatomy and Occlusion

Dates: Usually Part I Exams are administered in the 2nd week of JULY and 1st week of DECEMBER, every year.

Part II: National Board Dental Exams
A Candidate is eligible for Part II only after successfully completing all of Part I examinations.  Part II is usually taken during the last year of Dental School. It consists of a comprehensive, 1-½ day examination. It covers the clinical dental sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Dental Public Health and occupational safety.

Format
The Part II examination is administered in both a written and computerized format.

Dates: Written National Dental Board Exams Part II are administered the last week of MARCH and 1st week of DECEMBER, every year.

Foreign Dentists
Foreign Dentists can take Part I and Part II exams without enrolling in school.  *Those Foreign Dentists, who want to get an admission in U.S. Accredited Dental School must finish Part I National Dental Board Exam and TOEFL before they apply for an admission. Some schools require G.R.E. score also.  Each state board has a different eligibility requirement to allow the candidate to appear in those particular Dental Board Exams.  Some states participate in particular regional diversified licensing examinations.
