Overview
- Two Restoration and the board by rule shall determine the class of such restorations
And whether they shall be performed on mannequins, live patient, or both. At least one restoration shall be on a live patient.
- A demonstration of periodontal skills on a live patient.
- A demonstration of prosthetics and restorative skills in complete and partial dentures and crowns and bridges and the utilization of practical methods of evaluation. Specifically including the evaluation by the candidate of completed laboratory products such as, but not limited to, crowns and inlays filled to prepared model teeth.
- A demonstration of restorative skills on a mannequin which requires the candidate to complete procedures performed in preparation for a cast restoration.
- A demonstration of endodontics skills.
- A diagnostic skill examination demonstrating ability to diagnosis conditions within the human oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures from photographs, slide, radiographs, or models pursuant to rules of the board.
- The board may by rule provide for additional procedures which are to be tested, provided such procedures shall be common to the practice of general dentistry.

Upon passing the Restorative (Bench) Technique exam, an application for the regular exam is required along with exam fees.
Overview
- Written Examination - Two and one-half (2 ½) hours
The written examination is comprised of 116 multiple-choice questions. The exam includes sections on injection control, oral diagnosis, treatment planning and dental materials that shall test the candidates ability to recognize and institute treatment. on oral pathology as well at to test candidate's knowledge, understanding and judgement in diagnosis, oral medicine, radiology and comprehensive treatment planning.
- Differentiation Examination - One Hour
Is comprised of 30 multiple choice questions on prosthodontics. Each question relates to a particular prosthodontics case concerning an error that may or may not be present.
- Clinical Examination
I. Candidates shall perform the following procedures:
a. Class II Amalgam preparation and restoration on a patient
b. Class III or IV composite preparation and restoration on a patient
c. Endodontics Access preparation - includes opening pulp chamber, identifying canals and gaining access to canals.
- Simulation Examinations
I. Candidates shall perform the following procedures on a mannequin.
a. Full crown preparation and wax-up (indirect)
b. ¾ crown preparation
c. Class II Amalgam preparation
The mannequins, dentoform, Articulators, and mount will be provided.

crown.
2. complete preparation, wax-up, casting and finish at a ¾ gold crown
on premolar.
3. complete endodontics access opening on a maxillary first molar and
central incisor.
- Restorative (Operative) Dentistry
Candidates are allotted one examination day to complete the restorative (operative)
Examination requirements
A.
1. Prepare and place a class II Amalgam
2. Prepare and place a class II or IV Resin.
B. Upper Arch Denture - on patient
1. Prepare an upper arch denture against opposing lower denture or natural teeth
To an including the wax-try-in stage.
The procedure for administering the examination will be determined by the board. Each candidate shall be required to have a score of seventy-five (75) or more in each section to pass the clinical-practical examination.
The board will provide manuscripts for the examiners. The candidate will provide all patients, instruments and materials for the examinations.
